Step Drill for an Athletic Swing

From Justin Parsons On April 04, 2023
Watch any good golfer and you're likely to notice how easy they make the golf swing look. Everything is smooth and unhurried. They move in rhythm and balance, from the takeaway all the way to their textbook, pose-for-the-camera finish position. The power they can generate is often astonishing - how do they hit the ball so hard with so little apparent effort. As Titleist staff member Justin Parsons shares in this video, the answer can be found in how they synchronize the motion of their different... body parts. This is known as kinematic sequencing. Good players move their bodies in an athletic order that builds energy and and releases it in an accelerating chain reaction as the hips uncoil, followed by the torso, then the arms, with the club finally slingshotting through impact.

Rather than get bogged down in the science of sequence, sometimes it's more effective to just experience it. And Justin has a great drill to help you do just that. Add Justin's step drill to your practice routine and start FEELING proper sequencing. Your ball striking will improve greatly the more you start generating effortless power instead of powerful effort.
